Every month we highlight an athlete that exemplifies the values of our CrossFit Jeffries Point community. Your King of the Point is Josh Maffuccio. Josh is funny, strong and never backs down from a good workout.

What brought you to East Boston?

To be honest, mainly its affordability and convenience. Also, it’s a pretty cool place 😉

What drew you to CrossFit?

The desire to learn and challenge myself with a new workout. My old routine of simply lifting weights at the gym was becoming boring and didn’t really offer the challenge I was looking for.

What was your expectation on your first day at CJP? How has your perception changed since that day?

I was concerned that it would be elite and exclusive. Fortunately, this turned about to be totally false. Everyone is friendly and the gym is a friendly environment even those working out for the first time.

What keeps you coming back to CJP?

Knowing every workout will be an interesting and challenging one.

Biggest improvements/struggles with CrossFit?

Those intimidating compound movements (e.g. squat, clean, jerk) are no much less intimidating.

If you could create your own WOD, what movements would you use?

Running, KB clean and jerks, handstand pushups, deadlifts, burpee box jumps, and MB slams.

Meat head nickname (with explanation)?

Don’t really have one (not the meat-head type anyway), but I’d imagine of the Decepticons would do.

If you were to encourage someone on the fence of joining the CJP community, what would you say?

Basically the same reason I keep going; You’ll never have a bad workout.
