We kick off CJP’s 3-year anniversary with our Queen of the Point Melissa Lund. Melissa is a constant reminder that if you put your mind to it you can achieve your goals. She is a busy and talented professional with many gifts. We’ve had the pleasure of seeing her train always with a plan, commitment and perseverance. We are thrilled to see how much Melissa has embraced CJP values of working hard, accountable, consistent and setting SMART goals. Let’s all Congratulate Melissa!  Get ready for her workout!!

What brought you to East Boston?

My husband Frank started going to CJP and loved it, so I tagged along!

What drew you to CrossFit?

I like learning new things and also doing things that are difficult, so it seemed like a good fit.  I like that there’s always something to improve on.

What was your expectation on your first day at CJP? How has your perception changed since that day?

I wasn’t expecting it to be so genuinely supportive.  I know that’s sort of a Crossfit thing, but I really appreciate how people at CJP cheer you on, no matter where you’re at in terms of your fitness or a particular movement.

What keeps you coming back to CJP?

PRs!  I’m still at the point where I’m improving on a regular basis, so it’s motivating to be able to clean more weight or finally get T2B or whatever.

Biggest improvements/struggles with CrossFit?

Biggest struggle: freaking pull ups.  I want a pull up so bad, but I just can’t do one yet (working on it though!)

Biggest improvement: Running more efficiently, using a 14-lb ball, and being able to gauge how much to push myself in a workout.  When I started, I was either going way too light or way too heavy with weights and not getting as much out of the workout as I could have, so I’m getting better at figuring that out beforehand.  And I’m happy that I can do some workouts Rx now.

If you could create your own WOD, what movements would you use?

Box jumps, kettlebell, cleans/hang cleans, and any lower body stuff (squats, lunges).  And maybe some 200 m running mixed in there.

Meat head nickname (with explanation)?

I don’t really have one!  I need help, maybe someone can come up with something that’s not too offensive.

If you were to encourage someone on the fence of joining the CJP community, what would you say?

Do it!  The fact that you can scale it to fit literally any ability means no one should be scared of joining.  Also CJP people are the best.
