Your King of the Point for December is James Micheroni. James is always so positive and encouraging! We are most proud of his ability to make friendships inside and outside of the gym. During his workouts, James is always focused and a natural master at double unders. This year we supported James and his beautiful wife, Taylor as they sweated together for the wedding. We are so happy they said I do and continue to workout as one strong marriage. Thank you for trusting us and making us part of your day. Congratulations, James! We’ll honor King James with his very own workout!

What brought you to East Boston?

My sister lived in the neighborhood and we enjoyed visiting often. We found our place fairly serendipitously and the initial appeal was in part to get more space for our giant dog. Jeffries Point has become so much more to us almost 2 years later and we couldn’t be happier to call such a wonderful community home.

What drew you to CrossFit?

I played tennis in college, which enabled me to maintain a fairly high level of fitness while training, but I was never one to independently program my own gym workouts. I didn’t participate in much regular exercise after I graduated and I woke up one day, realized I was about to turn 30, was getting fairly out of shape, and needed to make a change. After weeks of inaction on my part Taylor signed us both up for a consultation with Javy. After our initial conversation I knew I was going to jump in- even though Taylor failed to show up for a single 101 class.

What was your expectation on your first day at CJP? How has your perception changed since that day?

I thought the gym would be filled with really intense people who were in amazing physical condition. After a few weeks there I realized every one was very approachable, friendly, and supportive, and the gym was filled with people of varying degrees of fitness.

What keeps you coming back to CJP?

The people and community that exist here. The gym is filled with awesome people and I have made so many great friendships here. It is an amazingly positive community that is fantastic to get a part of. The positive physical gains I’ve seen are great too – and it’s always fun to chase the next PR!

What are some of the changes you have experienced in your physical appearance, strength and/or body composition. How have you used this outside of the gym?

I am much leaner and stronger now than when I started. Taylor is very happy that she signed us up. I can now perform lifts at weights that used to be VERY far outside of my range and am on the cusp of being a proficient gymnast. Outside of the gym my workouts have helped me not to feel guilty about frequent diet cheat days. Working out at CJP is also a great stress reliever – which Taylor also appreciates.

Biggest improvements/struggles with CrossFit?

Honestly I feel like I have improved at everything from lifting more weight across all lifts to having a lot of gymnastics moves in my repertoire. The biggest struggle has probably been figuring out a way to get psyched up for “chipper” workouts filled with soul crushing things like burpees.

If you could create your own WOD, what movements would you use?

Double Unders, a barbell movement that isn’t snatches or overhead squats, and some gymnastics movement on the rig.

If you were to encourage someone on the fence of joining the CJP community, what would you say?

I would say “do it!” It is a great way to work out, get or stay in shape, and more importantly a great community!

Long Live King James! 🙂
